Welcome to my Fangirl Encyclopedia!
What is the actual meaning of "Fangirl" ?
I think fangirling can mean different things to everyone. When we look at the word literally, even though we might think of it as loving and admiring someone no matter what, that is not exactly what it is. It is quite normal for some of us to think this way due to the stereotype shaped in society. Therefore, I will try to explain exactly what fangirling is.
For me, fangirling is like a complex of emotions that gives the same feeling as belonging somewhere. We can call it a cycle where you can associate yourself with the art produced by the artist you love, the happiness you experience when you see that there are people who feel and think like you, and supporting them as a result of this. This does not mean that we will always share the same feelings with them and that this will continue forever. In different periods of our lives, we all can have areas where we want to express ourselves more or want to see.
This was once the American pop songs I listened to with my desire to learn English, and from here it started with my admiration for Taylor Swift, one of the most active artists between the times of 2014-2018. So, at least it was an admiration I put a name to at that time. This doesn't only have to be an artist, of course it can also be a series or a movie. After a while, starting to listen to kpop gave birth to my interest and curiosity in dance. In this way, I actually both acquired different hobbies and met other communities where I could express myself.
Because of this process I have lived through, doing fangirling is like a way I associated with myself depending on how I liked to express myself then, and what I was experiencing in that period. This can sometimes be the bond I have formed with artists or the different perspectives I have seen in their art. For me, fangirling corresponds to a definition like this.
Is it a waste of time?
